In February, Fiona and Brad had a beautiful wedding in what is normally the most most suitable & reliable weather period in Perth, perfect for weddings. Their special day fell in the middle of one of the worst bouts of weather Perth had experienced in recent times. While Februarys in Western Australia are normally hot and dry, this year was full of chilly, blustery days, with storms leading to floods, and rainfall records tumbling for the month of February! Through it all, these two had a day full of warmth and laughter and even a little sunshine and respite from the storms. Fiona and Brad made phenomenal wedding planners, and managed to organise the entire day from their home in New Zealand. Despite travelling extensively for work, these two were always going to get married in Perth where they had both grown up. It was fantastic to have the whole day in Fremantle and surrounding suburbs - the girls were based at Quality Suites in the heart of Perth, where preparations were made for the big day. Fiona was absolutely radiant that day - her elegant hair and makeup brought out her bright blue eyes and she wore a gown from Aubrey Rose that had a beautiful fitted bodice and full skirt. Floral Army created bouquet masterpieces for her and the girls with pink and white tones and flowing greens and ribbons. The boys spent their morning South of the river in Melville, mastering the art of tying bowties, and donning navy blue suits from Britton’s Formalwear, with the occasional beer being consumed. The two were married at Saint Patrick’s Basilica in Fremantle, with the church one of the most beautiful wedding ceremony locations in Fremantle. At the head of the room is a richly-coloured tapestry filled with Catholic icons and its Irish history, which provided the perfect backdrop for the ceremony. Upon entering, and seeing his bride to be, Brad was overjoyed and gleaming with happiness as he spotted Fiona for the first time. The image of these two saying their vows in Saint Patrick's Basilica church, provided one of the more striking photos from the day.We got lucky with a bit of sunshine for their bridal portraits, but the wind kept things interesting! I swear, as a wedding photographer in Perth, I get to see some of the craziest things - at one point, Fiona’s veil took off in the wind, finding it's way to a local fisherwoman. We found her, with Fiona's veil in one hand and a squid in the other - hilarious but also quite impressive. After some stunning shots in and around the Fremantle Maritime Museum, the venue for the reception, they headed straight into their first dance as the sun was setting on the horizon. I love when my couples plan their wedding in a way that suits them, and starting off the night with dancing made for a lively and joyful wedding reception. After that, I took the newlyweds to the balcony for that last bit of sunlight, the couple then joined their guests for drinks, speeches, and canapés with catering provided by Heyder & Shears, before ending the night back on the dance floor.
