Kaki and Edwin’s wedding day was a beautifully planned, autumn wedding in the Swan Valley, Western Australia. All the leaves in the vineyard were starting change colour and the backdrop was simply divine for a wedding shoot. The couple organised the whole thing from their home in China, and even though their wedding day was their first time at Sandalford, the Perth wedding venue took good care of them and helped them make their day truly special. The two had a full-day celebration, starting off with a Chinese tea ceremony that morning. The ceremony is a traditional wedding practice where the bride and groom serve tea to both sides of the family, a gesture that signifies the joining of the two families into one. After spending the morning together, Kaki and Edwin arrived at Sandalford Estate together, walked hand-in-hand down the aisle, and were married on Sandalford’s Merlot Lawn. The Turtle and the Pelican and the Black Posy teamed up to create a beautiful arbor under trees that were just beginning to show their red - almost as a tribute to the Chinese elements of their day. Anne Roberts officiated the wedding, which was translated for the guests, and there were very few dry eyes to be found as the two said their vows.It was just Kaki and Edwin for the bridal shoot, so we were free to wander all around the grounds of the Swan Valley vineyard, stopping in the vines, down by the Swan River, and then through an open field, where we chased the last light of the sun. Their relaxed, intimate wedding reception was held in the Durack Room overlooking the grounds, and Kaki even changed into a second reception gown that was equally as stunning as the first. Her family was so savvy and organised that by the time the reception had started, they had already compiled and projected a slide show of all the guests’ photos that had been taken that afternoon. As their evening drew to a close, we stole the bride and groom for one more quick photo before letting them spend the night celebrating with their guests. It truly was a beautiful and authentic day, and we had so much fun spending time with both the bride and groom and their families - even learning a few Chinese words and phrases along the way.
